- "Sequential movement that interlinks postures to form a continuous flow. It creates a movement meditation that reveals all forms as being impermanent and for this reason are not held on to." - Gregor Maehle
- "A vinyasa is a sequence of postures or asanas that flow smoothly from one to the next. It literally means to place in a special way." - Bernie Clark
- The breath leads the movement; the movement takes place within the breath - TKV Desikachar
Yin yoga is a system of long-held, passive floor poses that work to stimulate the flow of qi/chi (life force/energy) to the joints, connective tissues and meridian lines of the body, creating more flexibility and increasing joint health and stability. The quietness of the practice encourages deeper awareness of the body and prepares us to sit in meditation. Learning to breathe through the physical, mental and emotional agitations that arise while holding the postures also teaches us how we can overcome the external challenges that we face on a daily basis. The introspective quality of Yin Yoga evens out our more active and dynamic yang (Vinyasa) practice and also assists us in finding balance in our lives off the mat.
